They all tossed their hearing aids and implants, thousands of dollars, into my hands as they rushed into the river. I carried them back to cabin for safekeeping. I thought “they’re mine.” Somehow in the wonder of Jesus changing my story, I have been given the most beautiful family full of deaf teens. They’re mine, I am proud of them when the rest of the world doesn’t take time to understand them in their language and on their own turf. I will know the depths of their personality and humor, what they’re interested in and what makes them laugh and excited. What makes their hearts skip a beat, I want to know it. So please, those of you who haven’t stepped into their worlds, take the time and learn the language to do so. It’s the greatest gift you’ll ever receive, their friendship and love. They’re worth it. @aidthesilent @deafyounglifesa
