Breaking Chains

Teaching “Breaking Chains” to Providence Place this afternoon. The school won my heart several months ago and has an incredible heart to teach young adults with unique needs (who come from all over the country) vocational and life skills. It’s beautiful and feels like a home when you step foot on the campus!

As I sit in a quiet morning, pondering notes and Mark 5, Jesus reminded me of two painful memories I hold to…13321754_1750662775146039_4164413176689871863_n

1. I was once moved to the back line during cheerleading season because I kept falling behind beat in routines. 2. When girls would cover their mouths to whisper secrets (which would keep me from lip-reading) and I felt like I was being talked about so I became paranoid that mean things were being said about me.

Jesus reminds us of hurt so we can heal even from things far back and seemingly as petty as cheerleading or gossiping middle school girls.

In my own strength, it pushed me to practice hard for hours as I would lay on the floor next to the speaker to learn to feel the beat. I ended up front line again because my hurt pride drove me. In my own way, I handle being left out and isolated by shutting people out and trying to be accepted and known.

Jesus finally answered all. He said “I break these chains because you are made for so much more. I break these things into freedom and into being fully who you are made to be. You are no longer the “weird deaf girl”, YOU ARE MY LITTLE GIRL.”
