In the midst of chaos, it is possible to feel an overwhelming wave of peace.
Peace is not always a “feeling,” it is a state of being, a posture held in the middle of a whirling and noisy world crashing down all around, all the time. Everyone is searching for feelings or emotions of peace, joy, contentment, but really it is a perspective held and chosen. I can choose peace, joy, and satisfaction because I know the One who holds the key to all. These sturdy places of being are found in the Solid Rock.
“Peace of mind and heart” is such a comfort because those two pieces of me are always in conflict or uproar. My mind is naturally restless and anxious, and my heart is naturally broken or heavy. When I allow Jesus to fulfill and overfill me, I am drawn away from the natural anxious places to the place where He always meant for my heart to reside in, Himself. I have a good, good Father will longs to draw me from those mornings I wake in an anxious restlessness to experiencing peace and fullness of Joy. “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10).
A Teacher recently explained that Shalom, Peace is the “fulfillment of your identity to be fearlessly free.” It is to be complete and lacking in nothing. It is a posture of life not seasonal, but for the everyday. Incredible overwhelming peace is for the everyday found in the Person of Jesus.
We are not left in hopelessness or helplessness because of Jesus. Today I choose peace.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
